Car Travel with Pets

You really need to wear heavy leather gloves (the kind that go up to your shoulder) if you are going to try to get my cat Eddie into the Mini-Van, but many pets love to drive, almost more than their owners. While I've only had to take Eddie for a ride a few times, he has taught us a great deal about what can happen to the inside of a car, with a pet.

Pets are a joy to have with us, but they do have special needs to help them stay comfortable and us happy.

Pet Hair

Hair is the hardest item to clean off upholstery and carpeting. Trying to vacuum it up is a waste of time for the most part. The fibers weave into the carpeting and fabrics of our car, and grip.

What gets hair off the carpet and fabrics fast and easy is rubber or latex gloves. There is a product out there called the Pet Sponge, which works great too, but it is really made from the same substance. Just put on a glove, get it a little damp and run your hand across the pet hair area. Your glove will fill with pet hair, effortlessly. Rinse off, and go in for another swipe.

You might consider getting a Pet Pad for your traveling pet.

Heat

If you are traveling with a pet, get a sun shield. Seriously. I know we sell them, and this looks like a great place to put an ad, but the facts are, cars heat up way too fast, and much hotter than we realize.

From a cool just-air-conditioned state, it takes a car less than 20 minutes to reach 120 degrees sitting in the sun, even with the window 'cracked' open for fresh air. In summer times, or hot days, the interior can reach 150 degrees in the same amount of time.

Well made, reflective sun shields can reduce your car's temperature by 50 degrees. Leaving the window 'cracked' is still a good idea, but keeping the interior heat level down is much better.

Urine

Don't ask.

Getting the Urine out of the interior carpeting is a bit of a chore. Start with baking soda. Just pour it on dry and let it sit over night. Vacuum and repeat, letting the baking soda sit again. Vacuum up the last layer and then pour into the affected area Hydrogen peroxide. Let this evaporate, and then vacuum.

This won't remove any stain or discoloration, but it will get the odor out and neutralize the urine itself. From this point you can use a carpet or upholstery cleaner to remove any stain that might remain.

Comfort

Keeping pets comfortable and safe inside the vehicle is sometimes a creative challenge. We do have several car accessories for pets which can help you with some of the details.

Cargo Area Travel Liner: This is full comfort. The padded liner is cushioned and slip resistant, and allows your pet full access to the cargo area of your min-van. The liner is water resistant and tear resistant. Your pet can walk around on the textured fabric without slipping and sliding. The rear of your vehicle can get warm, so the fabric is breathable to keep your pet comfortable in any season.

Seat Covers: Same idea as the cargo liner, just a smaller space. The fabric and comfort are the same, and so is the ease of cleaning and the protection provided to your interior.

Pet Barriers: These barriers limit your pets movement, and with many pets this is a good idea. It also adds to their safety.

With pet barriers, windows can also be let down a little more, providing cooler conditions when you have to leave your pet in the vehicle while traveling. (it is still a very good idea to also use the sun shield I talked about earlier).

Organizer: Pets need stuff! Feeding dishes, snacks, leashes, collars, scoopers, and so much more. Pets need a lot of stuff, and keeping it organized is a good thing when traveling with your four legged partner. Leashes get tangled and "lost" quickly. Having a place to store these required items, for easy access, allows you more fun and less hassle.

Why Should You Travel?

I think the most important thing travelling does is it broadens your outlook.

You see how similar people and their feelings are across the world. From South Korea to Spain I saw people complaining of mother-in-laws :-) We are bound by certain things I guess.

Another thing it does is it can make you more tolerant – to other people’s belief’s, their way of life as you see them in their own surroundings. So when you go back to your own country, you are more understanding of other’s cultures.

Another important thing it does is – It teaches you. It teaches you a lot. It teaches you what you never learn in school. To expect the unknown. Unknown place, people. It makes travelling a fascinating experience.

Travelling teaches you to be independent. To plan. To manage your plan. It helps you in professional as well as personal life.

I certainly became more organised when I started travelling on my own.

Travelling brings out the ‘real’ person in you. If you are not sure if you want to marry your girlfriend / boyfriend, travel with them for couple of weeks – you will find out the answer.

It teaches you to compromise. Your food habits, organisation skills, likes and dislikes, flexibility will become evident. When you go out of your known surroundings, you get to know much more the other person. Well, not just before marriage, I learned a great deal more when I travelled with my wife.

I started 'serious' travelling for professional reasons at the age of 23 (in 1994) when I went to Hong Kong/South Korea for a business visit for one month. I did not speak Korean and did not know anyone else who spoke Korean. Being a vegetarian compounded the problem as I struggled to get the message across in hotels.

But it amazes me how human mind works. On my second visit to the restaurant, I again faced the problem of what to eat. I took the paper tissue kept on the table and drew a chicken on it. Then I put a BIG cross on it. Then I drew a four legged animal and again drew a cross across it. Then it was turn of the fish and again a big cross.

Then I drew an Egg next to the chicken I drew earlier and put a BIG YES tick on it (like the Nike logo). Then something with leaves again a yes there.

The waitress could not believe what was going on, but at the end of it she was amazed and gave a huge smile that she understood.

She also called her manager to see this weired fellow's drawings and both of them laughed and put fingers on some menu options on the menu card. I ordered one of it and found that I indeed got an egg fried rice!

However later I got better. Next day, I requested one of my colleagues who could write a bit of english to write some common things for me in Korean (including one that said 'I'm a vegetarian - no meat or fish for me. Egg is fine') and later on only thing I had to do was to carry that paper with me and show the message.

So, go out, meet some fascinating people, see the world. And your world will not be the same again.

Travel eBusiness Models

Travel eBusiness Models is owned and operated by Sabre Holdings – a products, distribution and technology solutions company focused on the travel industry. Their consumer direct and business direct side of the business is Travelocity. Travelocity has several million registered users and booked $4.9 billion worth of travel business in 2004.

At the time of writing, Travelocity is the second most popular brand in the world in the Internet travel marketplace. Travelocity.com is also the 386th most popular website in the world, whilst the British version, Travelocity.co.uk is the 4884th most popular.

Travelocity was established in 1996 as a subsidiary or Sabre Holdings and was the first travel website that allowed users to browse, reserve and book travel-related products online.

Initially Travelocity appeared to be extremely ‘community orientated’ – regularly arranging offline meetings and presentations for ‘do-it-yourself travellers’.

In 1998 Travelocity changed direction and became more ‘travel deals orientated’. They did this by incorporating the availability to book flights, hotels and car hire directly from their home page.

In 2000 Travelocity became more aware of the need to market themselves as a brand. This resulted in 2002 with a complete re-design of the website to make it more user-friendly and encourage return visitors.

Travelocity’s present day website (designed in 2004) ‘look and feel’ is starting to rely more on a higher percentage of graphics. This offers website users a more visually appealing experience, although it does rely on the user being more likely to have a slightly faster Internet connection than they used to.

Travelocity Position

Travelocity.com is a fun, friendly, informative, useful and easy to use website. In addition to this it is professional and reliable. This demonstrates that Travelocity is comfortable to try and be a ‘love all, serve all’ Internet Travel Portal.

Travelocity is however a company with an aggressive stance. It does not form strategic alliances with other companies in order to promote affiliate-marketing programmes. In addition, it regularly seeks out potential competitors to buy.

In 2000, Travelocity purchased another early web travel company, Preview Travel, whilst in 2002 it purchased Site59.com – a New York based travel business that specialise in late bookings.

On 12th May 2005 it was announced that Travelocity had agreed to buy lastminute.com for £577m – creating Europe's biggest online travel retailer. Part of the reason why Travelocity wants to gain dominance quickly in the Internet Travel Marketplace and grow by acquisition is that it understands that the market is growing and evolving quickly.

It wants to be the first choice in the majority of consumers’ minds for future travel purchases. This is therefore one of their major strengths. Whether or not their decision not to evolve by forming strategic alliances may thwart this aggressive growth strategy is yet to be seen.

To a certain degree, opportunities within the Internet travel marketplace for Travelocity are still limitless. They can still expand to cover more countries Internationally, they can still improve upon their overall marketshare and they can still expect both Internet users and the amount of Internet users willing to book online to increase significantly.

Travelocity Core Competences

Travelocity are striving towards ensuring that their brand is the most recognised and trusted available in the Internet Travel marketplace. Their most important core competency is to offer an integrated, easy-to-use and intuitive website that keeps people wanting to come back to it much more that any competitor in the field.

Travelocity Competitive Advantage

Travelocity have recently introduced their Bill of Rights onto their website:
Customers have the right to…

1) Get what you booked
2) The best overall value in travel
3) Accurate and objective information upfront

4) Find what you’re looking for quickly and easily

5) A straightforward presentation of your options

6) Speak with someone and get help anytime

7) Be inspired by your travel company

These seven key customer issues have been highlighted to demonstrate why Travelocity believe that they are better than the competition. Travelocity want their brand to represent trust, reliability and service and therefore define what they believe their competitive advantage to be.

The Merchant Model Conclusion

The merchant model is without doubt the most competitive Internet business model for the travel industry. The two main worldwide competitors – Expedia and Travelocity have chosen to focus upon price and service level differentiation respectively. It could be argued that Expedia however focus on their value-adding activities – their existing infrastructure in order to derive their core competencies of efficiency and price. Travelocity on the other hand rely upon their ‘bill of rights’ core competency in order to drive their ‘value adding activities’.

RV Travel Tips

RV Travel Tips For The Beginner And Seasoned RV Enthusiast

There’s never been a better time to take up the RV life. Whether you’re a weekend wanderer, a snowbird or a full-timer, there’s an RV to suit any travel budget and any taste. With baby boomers starting to hit retirement age, more and more people are taking to the road with their motor home, RV or travel trailer. The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association recently reported that nearly 8 million American households have and RV, motor home or travel trailer and that there are as many as 30 million RV enthusiasts in the US.

Seeing the country in an RV offers many benefits to the traveler looking for an affordable and exciting way to spend quality family time. According to one study, a family of four can save up to 74% traveling by RV instead of more conventional ways. And with more than 16,000 public and privately-owned campgrounds in the US, there’s a site to fulfill everyone’s vacation fantasy, whether it’s an oceanfront view, hiking trails, casino gambling or tennis.

RV travel is easy to learn, and once you’ve got the hang of it, there’ll be no going back! Here are six helpful tips that will come in handy for both the beginning and seasoned RV enthusiast:

Map it Out

A large part of the RV appeal is the exhilarating freedom of the open road to go wherever you want, whenever you want. But it helps to have a solid travel plan in place. If you know where you’re heading, you can determine the best route, which offers the most interesting places to see. Look in travel guides, contact tourism boards in states you’ll be passing through, and search on the Internet. Make sure to have the correct road maps with you; a GPS system is a good idea as well, especially if you’re new to this kind of travel. If you’ve carefully designed the route you’ll be taking, it makes it easier to do spur-of-the moment things like checking out that oddball museum you just spotted on a roadside billboard!

Have A Checklist? Just Checking

During your pre-trip prep, in addition to working out what needs to be in the RV, put together a thorough checklist of things to do when setting up at a campground. There are the basics, like finding out where all the campground connections are, making sure your RV is level and properly hooking up your water, gas and electric systems – but don’t forget comfort concerns, like making sure you’ve packed your favorite CDs and DVDs and those new lawn chairs. Equally important, you should have a second checklist of what has to be done when you break camp, both in terms of setting up your RV for departure (quick hint: when you think the job is done and everything is ready, check again).

Be Prepared - Have A ‘Just-For-The-RV’ First Aid Kit

Always make sure you have a fully stocked, up-to-date, just-for-the-RV First Aid kit, and keep it in an outside storage compartment. It should include basic medical supplies (bandages, ointment, OTC pain reliever, insect repellant, scissors, etc.) and items like a flashlight, paper and writing implements, and a disposable camera in case you have to take photos of an accident site. If you don’t feel up to the task of putting one together yourself, an extensive range of ready-made First Aid kits are available for purchase. Also include an emergency supply of must-have medications and a list of important contact names (family members, doctors, insurance agents etc).

Camping with Kids

If you’re traveling with children, make sure to set aside time during the day for outdoor activities, as even the roomiest RV can be confining for kids. And give each child his or her own space in the RV, no matter how small, for personal stuff and toys and games. RV traveling is a unique opportunity for your children to see new and different places and faces. There are often plenty of other kids at campgrounds – but be sure to walk around a new campground with your children when you first get settled there. They need to know which campsite you’re in and how to find it from other places on the grounds. If you’re also taking the family pet, check beforehand to see if they’re allowed at the campground

A Little Help From Your Friends

When in doubt, ask your fellow RVer. However well-traveled you might be, odds are there’s someone you’ll meet along the way who has been somewhere you haven’t, solved a problem you haven’t yet encountered, or spotted an out-of-the-way delight you’ve never heard of. No matter how much research you’ve done, there’s bound to be a campsite you haven’t read about, a storage system that has escaped your notice – or a funny anecdote that you’ll laugh about for years to come. The new folks you meet may or may not become close friends for life, but they’re an important part of the journey.

Costa Rica Caribbean Travel

If you're considering where to go on your next vacation, try the world of great tropical adventure called Costa Rica.

A Costa Rica Caribbean vacation lets you explore active volcanoes, see wild animals, see lush rain forests up close, and swim and lounge on great beaches. Costa Rica is one of the few ultimate paradises that have been left untouched on planet Earth. There are no military bases or nuclear power plants, and Costa Rica has lots of culture. In addition, Costa Rica is a tropical climate, so there's no winter to contend with. Costa Rica is a democratic society and is one of the most peaceful in the world. Its last civil war occurred in 1948. Since then, it has abolished armed forces and has also avoided despotic dictatorships, military coups, terrorism and any other forms of conflict so common in other parts of the world.

In addition, Costa Rica has a very friendly country. Costa Rica Caribbean travel provides a friendly, warm welcome no matter what part of the country you wish to visit.

Costa Rica means "rich coast," but Costa Rica has far more to offer than just its coast. Costa Rica is a country of incredible natural beauty and it contains many species of animals not present in many other parts of the world. Some of these animals are very rare and can only be seen if you go to Coast Rica.

In addition, plants are very diverse and beautiful as well. There are well over 10,000 species of vascular plants and many gorgeous flowers. In addition, almost 2000 tree species have been recorded in this beautiful Latin American country. Visiting this astonishing country should give you an incredibly exciting Costa Rican Caribbean travel vacation, with such unusual and innumerable flora and fauna to view in its natural habitat.

In addition to land mammals and birds that anybody interested in ecology would love to see, Costa Rica also has approximately 835 species of fish. 700 of these are saltwater fish. Anglers and fishers should have a wonderful time fishing in Coast Rica's clear blue waters, as they challenge themselves to see if they can catch any of these unusual fish species.

Now, let's focus for a minute on the northwest region of Coast Rica, called Guanacaste. Most Costa Rican Caribbean travelers go there these days because of its ever-changing scenery and the many activities offered. There are many tours you can take; no matter what your interests, you should find something you like. With these tours, take an close look at all of its exotic trees, plants, flowers, animals and fish. For an experience you'll never forget, a Coast Rica Caribbean vacation is just the ticket for you.

Whatever your interests, you should find something you like to do on your Coast Rica Caribbean travel. Some of these will depend on the region of the country you go to. In the rain forest, bird watching walks with English-speaking guides who are experts in identification themselves should let you see exotic species up close, while horseback riding provides another view of your Costa Rican Caribbean travel vacation

Another option is to take a canopy tour, which is a popular tour in every region of Coast Rica. However, to best experience Costa Rica's precious rain forest, avoid tours that go through areas from the north towards the west. In these areas, climates are drier so that vegetation is not as lush as it is in other areas.

Travel To Machu Picchu

One of the most visited sites in the world today by travelers is Machu Picchu. It is located in Cuzco, Peru in the high Andes Mountains. It is approximately 724 miles away from Lima, the Peruvian capital. A typical trip by land on a bus takes about 20 hours. One could also take a flight and arrive there in a heartbeat of one hour. The starting point usually begins in Lima.

The ruins sit surrounded by the Andes Mountains at about 11,024 feet above sea level. The name Machu Picchu literally means “old peak”, translated from the Quechua language. It was discovered by Hiram Bingham on July 24, 1911 while he was in charge of a Yale University expedition. It was in this landscape that the Incas built Machu Picchu at the end of the fourteenth century.

The climate is mild, warm and damp. It has a year round average temperature of 55F during the day. There are typically two seasons, a rainy season which lasts from November to March and dry season, which lasts from April to October. Most travelers prefer to travel to the site during the dry season.

Personal Travel Experience

I had the pleasure of visiting Machu Picchu 22 years ago around this time when I was a small child. I was accompanied by my mother. The scenery was beautiful and breathtaking. We took a train from the city of Cuzco and it took us just a few hours to get to Machu Picchu. Then we had to take a small bus up the trail all the way to the top. Nowadays, there are two ways to connect from Cuzco. One is a Tourist Train, which only operates in the high season. The trip takes four hours and returns in the evening. Then there is also the Autovagon, a tourist service that takes three hours to get to the site with an evening return trip as well. Both leave in the early morning hours.

We highly recommend you to put Machu Picchu, Peru as one of your top travel destinations to visit in the near future. The experience will be unforgettable.

UPDATE: On July 7th in Lisbon, Portugal, Machu Picchu was voted in as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Travel With Charter Flights

More Value In Your Travel With Charter Flights

Ideally, travel is something everyone would like to do more of. Who wouldn’t enjoy the adventure of learning more about different cultures and places? But isn’t it true, you really don’t realize what you’ve got at home, until you see first hand how other people live.

Unfortunately, travel does not fit into everyone’s budget. Over time, airfare has become more affordable, however extensive air travel is still pricey enough that most people don’t fly nearly as much as they drive. The sad truth is, it’s likely to remain this way. Instead of relying on winning the lotto to pay for your desire to travel more frequently, why not consider a more budget friendly alternative like Charter Flights.

Charter Flights are unique to typical airline travel because their operating system is different. Airlines, like the ones you would normally fly out of large cities, will have a specific route between two cities. The airline flies this route from point A to point B a set number of times per week regardless of how many passengers they carry. This is why airfare is so pricey. Airlines will fly their planes at less than half full and charge you the difference on your next ticket. It's costly to operate those machines, and you, the consumer pays the price whether you're on the plane or not.

Here's the beauty of Charter Companies; by chartering an airplane from reliable airline for specific time slots and dates, they will get the benefit of a large discount on the overall cost, that you could not get on your own. This discount, for a much reduced rate at the per seat price, is passed on to you by the charter company. You can expect most charter companies to offer similar destinations and routes dependant upon the season you're interested in traveling in. Commonly, winter flights will bring you to a warmer vacation spot.

Reliability is much better with charter flights, as opposed to other discount airfare methods. Airfare prices will decrease as the departure date approaches as well. When considering charter flights, it's important to note that charter companies can cancel any scheduled flight if they haven't sold enough tickets, and contrary to airlines, may be unable to seat you on another flight going to your planned destination, in a timely manner. If this is the case, you should expect a refund or a wait of several days for another charter. This could definitely put a damper on anyone's vacation.

With that in mind, there are a variety of dependable charter companies and flights that are a reliable alternative to typical airfare, though the discounts may not be as substantial. The bottom line is; if you're able to purchase a ticket without much notice and your flexible on dates and times, flying with a charter company may be much better suited to your budget.

Future of Air Travel?

Air travel is great when it works, when it doesn't, it's a nightmare. It is safe for infants, even newborns and no matter where you're going, it seems air travel is an essential part of your trip. One reason why there is such fast growth is that air travel was under-priced until higher fuel prices came along but yet demand for air travel is at its highest levels since 9/11. It is governed by International, European and Domestic legislation and even private corporate air travel is now accessible. Traveling by air is the fastest way to travel but it is still very tiresome but is frequently the most practical method of covering the large distances between sights around the world. A century after the very first flight, air travel is no longer a miracle, it's something we all now take for granted. Commercial air travel is a comfortable, speedy and a safe means of transport like buses in the sky.

This pattern is not seen for all airlines in all regions. Aloha Airlines received the fewest complaints for any airlines recently. Different airlines have different policies but they all make them as safe and profitable as possible. When it comes to prices now a days, the best deals are offered by Aeroflot, Quantas Airlines, Japan Airlines and Southwest Airlines. More and more airlines are cutting out a lot of their business class air travel and sticking with just coach and first class flights because business travel is way down. Some airlines are better than others at providing a quality air travel experience but there are so many flights to chose from. That's why the member airlines of the Air Transport Association have set forth their commitment to improving air travel and making it as safe as can be.

With the geography of aviation and airports, air travel is a fascinating subject since it involves the immediate movement of people around the globe. Canada's new government announces increased security measures for airports and air travel. European airports are handling the second largest air travel market in the world and are talking positively about their future. Whether on a domestic or a multinational trip, airports really can save you money. All airports in the United States are certainly focused on optimizing safety because millions of people are moving through our airports every day of the week.

Be smart while you travel: Make sure you follow travel safety tips while you are on your trip. The Airport Authority always offers tips for travelers and you should always follow them for smooth traveling.

Air travel is still growing and the key to successful air travel is planning, preparation and communication because it is such big business and can easily become a nightmare.

Happy Traveling

The Art of Buying Travel Luggage

Not all luggage is created equal. There is a wide variety of prices and quality between manufacturers. Before you purchase luggage you should consider what your actual luggage usage will be. There is no need for you to purchase the most expensive luggage if you only travel once or twice a year or if you never plan to fly.

Most people probably remember the old Samsonite commercial with gorillas throwing the luggage around their cage. While this was hilarious it was close to the truth. Checked luggage takes a beating.

If you never plan to fly you don't need super expensive luggage. Of course, we'd never recommend buying the cheapest either. You will still need luggage that will hold up under some abuse.

We'd also recommend you pay close attention to how luggage is priced. Most manufacturers highly over inflate the price of their luggage then bring the prices down claiming they are on sale or are deeply discounted. Don't believe this. This is what the jewelry industry does. When you're looking at luggage always start with the final price.

One thing you'll find is hundreds of different brands of luggage. From the expensive high end Ricardo luggage which has a built in digital scale, to lesser priced American Flyer luggage and many in between. Some luggage manufacturers try to reach a young audience with their styles and patterns. JanSport luggage does this. Some companies make children's luggage with smaller sizes and adorable prints. Liz Claiborne luggage is sophisticated and stylish for the fashionable woman traveler.

You're lucky if your luggage is only beat up and not lost. What about lost airline luggage? Do you have any idea what happens to it? Did you know that you can buy articles from lost airline luggage?

Were you aware that if you don't want to both with your luggage at all when you travel you can use a luggage delivery service? It isn't cheap, but you can have your luggage picked up from your home and have it waiting for you at your destination. Again, be aware of prices. Some have up front pricing. Some are a bit more difficult to figure out. Some charge extra for Saturday delivery and add pick up and fuel surcharges to the price. Make sure that you are fully aware of all charges when it comes to a luggage delivery service, and be aware that they generally quote one-way prices only.

The choice of luggage can make or break your vacation. The last thing you need to have happen is to have a zipper break, or a seam split or have a handle break as you're walking out the door to the airport. Experts will say don't overload your suitcase. This causes undue stress on zippers and seams. Examine your suitcase when you take it off the airline carousel. Check it to make sure there has been no damage done to your luggage. If there is obvious damage done to your luggage immediately take it to the airline customer service center to report it.

A nice dinner for two with wine will run you $100 US. Souvenirs are $20 - $35 for t-shirts, $10-14 for towels, mugs, etc.

Natuarally, as it is almost anywhere you travel, the domestic goods are much cheaper than imported items.

Traveling To and From and While in Barbados

When you arrive in Barbados at the airport and claim your bags you will walk out of the terminal to buses, taxis and shuttle transport. It is best to pre-arrange a shuttle to and from your hotel. The taxi ride from the airport will run $20-60 depending on the distance to your hotel and size of taxi you require. The shuttle will charge for surfboard bags and some other large oversized items. Do not pay more than $5.

If you rent a car it will be about $50-60 per day. Don’t let anyone charge you more than that. If you are from the US and you are planning to rent a car while in Barbados keep in mind you will have to drive the car. This may sound simple but the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car and the cars drive on the wrong side of the rode. This takes a little getting used to but also serves as quite an adventure!

Dress

Barbados is a British colonized island and therefore embraces the British conservatism in dress. The dress during the day is casual, tropical travel beach attire. At night and for dinner the men wear pants and collared shirts and the ladies where dresses and skirts. Due to the weather it is best if they are lightweight materials.

The Barbadians, or Bajans as they are more commonly referred to on the island, dress business casual most of the time. In the city business dress is the norm for locals and there are many men in ties and even jackets.

When dressing to go shopping beach attire is not appropriate. Bathing suits and swim wear are reserved for beaches and beach bars.

Dining

There are some great restaurants in Barbados. The Cliff restaurant is one of the nicest restaurants on the island. The view, as you can imagine for the name, is gorgeous. The restaurant is located in the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

In St. Lawrence Gap, Bellini’s is great. It is right inside a cove with small boats and is amazing at sunset. The salmon is my favorite.

Most hotels will have a book of restaurants on the island in their lobby area or with the concierge desk. It will have a picture of the restaurant and the menu with prices. This is a great way to pick some places you would like to eat at during your stay.

Hotels

There is a wide range of hotels to choose from. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

Budget

If you are looking for a bargain, try the Sandy Bay Beach Club. The hotel itself is nice enough, 3 star. But the staff is very friendly and helpful and the beach out front of the hotel is possibly the best on the island. It is all-inclusive so all meals, alcohol, gratuities and non-motorized sports activities are included. This makes it an excellent deal.

Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style and there is a snack bar for in-between times. Dinner is your choice of buffet style dinner or 5-course dinner in the dining room, reservations are required. They will tell you they are booked for the dining room when you ask but you can always get in. Just ask when you can come in and see if there has been a cancellation or if you can try coming at last seating which is at 8:30pm.

You can scuba, kayak and paddle boat and it is all included. Massage for an hour in the spa is only $65. For $5 you can have a giant umbrella staked in the sand by your lounge chairs. The activities center offer a $50 Turtle and Shipwreck snorkel trip. It is a great boat ride and a really reasonable cost.

If you try booking this hotel use www.cheapcarribean.com and you may get an even better deal.

Moderate

The Hilton is a gorgeous hotel located on a peninsula, so the view out of every window is crystal blue water.

This hotel has all the amenities, valet, room service, scuba excursions, restaurants, bars, spa, pool, children’s programs, everything you might need.

The rooms range from $450 - $1500 per night.

It is a beautiful hotel and if you have some money to spend on a nice vacation this is the resort to choose. You actually don’t even need to leave the hotel much. You have the views, pool, and beaches while having all the amenities of the hotel only steps away.

Expensive

Sandy Lane Hotel is the place to stay if cost is not a concern. It is the site of Tiger Woods wedding and is breathtaking.

This hotel is stunning. It is by far the most luxurious hotel on the island. You name it and it’s done. Spa, golf, horse back riding, 5 star dining, concierge service, luxury sedan from the airport. They will have it or find it for you.

The children have a summer camp style center called the Tree House Club. It is a kids dream with arts and crafts, movies, pool time. It also always parents some alone time on the vacation. They also have a Den for teenagers to enjoy away from the parents and little ones.

Room rates range from $850 – 10,000 per night.

Attractions

Snorkeling with the Turtles & Shipwreck

Catamaran and boat snorkel trips are offered all over the island. The Snorkel Turtle trip was nice but you may or may not see turtles in the water. Keep your eye out because you may see some from the boat.

The shipwreck snorkeling is beautiful. There are a ton of color fish and clear water. There is an old shipwreck and then a newer man made shipwreck where they sunk a party boat, not as authentic, but draws some exotic sea life.

Wild Life Reserve

If there is one thing you get out and do in Barbados go to the Wild Life Reserve. It is on the North end of the island and you can take the 4x4 Adventure Tour, taxi or rental car. It is $13 US admission cost and it is worth 3 times the price.

When you walk in there are large turtles everywhere. The reserve has no cages in the main area. Only the snakes, gigantic python and iguana’s are caged in a separate area. The monkeys, rabbits, and other wild life run free. The reserve is heavily shaded with rain forest looking trees and vines that hang and provide swinging tools for the monkey. You walk through the reserve on brick paths. There is even a crocodile in a pond, with high rock walls so it can’t escape.

It is a unique experience and something not to be missed.

Atlantis Submarine Excursion

If you choose to do the submarine excursion book this on www.magicaljourneys.com. They offer discounts including some two for one booking deals. That means $90 for two people instead of $180.

Other attractions on the island include a rum tasting tour, exploring caves, golfing and horseback riding.

IMPORTANT TRAVEL TIPS:

- Check the weather before travel so you know how to pack

- Search www.cashunclaimed.com to see if you have unclaimed money owed to you that can add extra money to your travel budget.

- Use travelers cheques. If they are lost or stolen they can usually be replaced within 24 hours, from virtually anywhere in the world by most banks, service establishments and by a large number of merchants

- Do not leave valuable in your hotel room or if you do opt for activating and using the safe in the closet.

- Do not call home from the hotel room. There are shops you can go in and dial from their computer, use a handset to talk and call home for $0.50 per minute. The hotel will charge you $5.00-35.00 to connect you and then $2.90-7.90 per minute! If you use your cell phone it may cost you $2-$5 per minute.

- Travel with great people and HAVE FUN!

2006 Ford Expedition: A Whole New Way to Travel

The 2006 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV segment with a combination of interior versatility and adaptability, driving control, and, of course, safety. In two years in a row, it has continuously won the Polk Automotive Loyalty Award in its own segment.

Ford Motor Company first introduced the Ford Expedition in the year 1996. It was introduced as a rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, which were full-size SUVs. The Ford Expedition surely has evolved through the years and it was in the year 2003 when it received a major redesign that integrated an independent rear suspension that even the 2006 Tahoe and Yukon avoided. The 2006 Ford Expedition is a capable truck, with decent power, plenty of room, and includes lots of safety features.

Its features are leaders and milestone breakers in its class. And these features include fold-flat-to-the-floor second- and third-row seating, class-exclusive PowerFold™ third-row seat, second-row CenterSlide™ section, heated and cooled front seats, keyless entry pad, AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, Safety Canopy™ system, reverse sensing system and power-adjustable pedals. The 2006 Ford Expedition also has 110.5 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is the most hip room in all three rows and most third-row legroom, making it the best offer for the best-in-class interior space. Another highlight of this vehicle is that it also offers independent rear suspension for improved ride and handling which is the first for an SUV in its class. For this vehicle, two new exterior colors are offered: pewter clearcoat metallic, and dark copper clearcoat metallic. A medium flint grey interior has also been added to this series.

http://www.autopartscorner.com gives owners a great collection of 2006 Ford Expedition replacement parts like bumpers, spoilers, wheels, header panels, headlights, hoods, and radiator support. Unlike other online stores, Auto Parts corner gives each and every client excellent customer service and the finest quality 2006 Ford Expedition parts that only a Ford deserves.

Cruise Travel For Physical Fitness

Cruise Travel For Physical Fitness Or A Spa Vacation

You really want to take a cruise but you also really want to go to a spa for physical fitness and maybe a little pampering. In the world today you can do both. Years ago you were lucky to find a spa on a cruise ship. If there was one, it was in a really remote area of the ship. As for physical fitness there was very little equipment and most of it was tired. When people started to become more conscious of their looks and health the cruise lines revised their way of thinking. Cruise travel now can double as a spa vacation as well as learning a new physical fitness program.

The newer cruise ships have gone to great lengths to accommodate the cruise passenger who also wants to beautify and tone up. The cruise lines have installed state of the art equipment, added numerous exercise classes, and offer the newest beauty treatments available. Many of the cruise lines have relocated their fitness centers to the top decks of the ships with lots of windows so you can have a view while you are on the treadmill, bike, or lifting weights. Tucked up into the corner is a big TV so you can watch the news from back home. The cruise ships now have three distinct areas, one for fitness, one for spa treatments and one for the beauty salon.

As mentioned, the fitness centers on cruise ships are now a thing to behold. They all will definitely have treadmills, Stairmasters, free weights rowing machines and bikes. Some cruise lines even have complete Nautilus machines. Popular exercise machines, especially on sea days, may require you to sign up for a particular time of day and will limit the amount of time you can use the machine.

If you want to use your cruise travel as a vehicle to start an exercise regime there are physical trainers onboard. Their services, however, will cost you extra. The trainer will ask you lots of questions about your health and diet and then will come up with a personal regime for you. He or she will then book times through the week for you to work together.

All cruise lines offer exercise classes, yoga, aerobics, dance, water aerobics, even Pilates and kickboxing. Some of these may require a slight fee. To find out when these classes are held consult your daily bulletin for times and fees, if any.

Now, you're thinking why would I start a physical fitness regime while on a cruise ship, especially since they serve all that food, 24 hours a day? Well along with the newer, shinier and better facilities the cruise lines have also instituted what they call spa cuisine. Everyday they will offer a "lighter side" menu if you are really serious about you new physical fitness regime.

Don't assume that if the ship is older, it won't have a decent fitness and spa area. Check with your cruise travel agent to find out what facilities are onboard the cruise ship you have chosen. For instance, the QE2 is an older ship but it has a beautifully outfitted spa with a large staff. Celebrity's slight older Century has a Thalassotherapy pool for their passenger's enjoyment and it has become quite popular among their cruisers.

When you board your cruise ship go to the spa area. Usually on the first day the staff will be explaining their treatments and occasionally demonstrate how it is done. Sometimes they will raffle off treatments, so go to the demonstration just for that reason. If you have definitely decided that you will be doing some treatments, book them on day one to get the best times. Any beauty salon appointments should be made then too, hair appointments for formal night go very quickly.

Many times the spa and beauty staff will discount their services on days when the ship is in port. If you are going to a few cruise destinations that you have previously visited, take advantage of these offers. You will find that you can pick your time of day to get these treatments done with little or no competition. If you are an early riser, choose an appointment in the morning and then get off the ship to enjoy that port. Or, conversely, disembark early to explore your new port, and then return to the ship in the early afternoon to take advantage of a discounted treatment.

When you go to your spa appointment, do not wear jewelry or fancy clothes. Most treatments are a bit messy and you don't want to ruin any of your belongings. It is best just to wear a robe. When you get there an attendant will give you a towel and a private locker to put away your things. You may then be asked to wait in a room. Your technician will come out to take you to the room designated for that particular application. You will also fill out a form on your health and any surgeries that you have had. The room you are in will most likely have a shower. It will definitely have a sound system to play soothing music and there will be an array of exotic oils and creams.

The cruise ship spas have gotten quite creative. They now offer couples massages where you and your partner are in the same room with different massage therapists. Then there are four hand massages where two people work on you at the same time. Some of the cruise lines offer in suite massages and some even have massages on the deck.

By far the highest percentage of staff are women but there a few men. If you have a preference between male or female spa technicians, state it when you make your appointment. Some people are uncomfortable lying naked on a table with a therapist of the opposite sex. Check the cruise ships policy on tipping. Some cruise lines automatically tack on a 15% charge to your bill while on others you may have to pay in cash. To save embarrassment, check at the time you make your appointments.

There are three lines that allow you to make your spa appoints before boarding the ship. Princess, Windstar and Celebrity all offer this option. In some cases they even have packages that you can book in advance. Be careful here though, they may give you some very early morning appointments which means you have to go and change them on the very first day. This is not the best policy since they should be giving you prime appointments for booking ahead.

Beauty salons will offer a full array of services. You can have your nails done, your hair colored or hand and foot treatments aside from just a trim. Most of the beauty salons have Europeans staffs. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Places like Austria require their beauty students to go to the equivalent of our college.

See, it is possible to turn your cruise into a spa vacation or physical fitness week. Just follow what your trainer or your beauty technicians tell you and eat the spa cuisine. You've just achieved three goals, a little bit of pampering, a fitness regime, and a light and healthy diet. This may be a new way for you to view cruise travel.

Travel Nursing Placement Agency

Choosing the Right Travel Nursing Placement Agency

Travel nursing is becoming one of our nation’s fastest growing professions, and it’s no surprise. If you love seeing new places and enjoy exciting new experiences that evoke the feeling of taking an extended vacation, then the career of a traveling nurse might be just what the doctor ordered! Travel nursing enables many people to stay on vacation for two to six months in free luxury accommodations while earning high hourly wages at the same time.

Yet despite all these advantages, many nurses describe to me that they’ve shied away from the traveling profession. Why? Because bad experiences with placement agencies have left them with nothing but a negative impression. They’ve been underpaid or lacked benefits, and I can’t tell you how many nurses have complained to me about inadequate housing or recruiters who were unkind, uncaring, and just plain unavailable. The sad result is that nurses end up jumping from one agency to the next, always in search of the perfect package that’s never there.

In this light, choosing the right staffing agency requires a nurse to consider everything that is offered. Some nurses emphasize pay as their top priority. Others require an excellent benefits package. Many travel RNs are location-specific and want to experience the lifestyle in the country’s hot spots. Career flexibility is often a pivotal factor, along with customer service. The bottom line is, your agency choice depends largely upon one of the four following criteria.

SALARY

No question about it, there are some agencies that offer more money than others. So the first thing to remember is that agencies may base salaries upon things like location availability, need-to-fill assignments, and cost of living.

Some agencies must offer noticeably higher rates if they expect to fill certain assignments where nurse-to-patient ratios are very low, or where a facility has extreme patient needs. If you’re a nurse who is attracted by very high dollars, be alert for a potentially desperate situation you might be entering, and the workload it could bring. You may make more money, but you’ll earn every dollar and more.

Location also factors into salary. The California bay area and many larger east coast cities definitely offer more lucrative pay rates. It’s also much more expensive to live in those places, so recognize the relationship that exists between salary dollars and cost of living. I’ve seen nurses return from Hawaii saying they had a great vacation and made a lot of friends—but their purses were lighter, not heavier from the experience. You might get less money in an exotic location and come back with more money from a not-so-exotic location. My point is, your criteria will determine your priorities.

BENEFITS

What some companies may lack in salary, they make up for with benefits. Many agencies offer benefits programs that revolve around monetary bonuses or discounted luxury housing; and I have even observed a trend with several newer companies that offer entirely free housing to all their nurses. Take note, however, that those agencies may not ante up the really high salaries. It’s a trade-off, so they compensate you with benefits to save you daily, monthly, and annual expenses. Every nurse should be aware of what benefits they need the most, and then ask their recruiters to assist in developing a package that is tailored to their individual needs.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

To many traveling nurses, customer service and aid are the most important attributes a placement agency possesses. If you called ten agencies and only talked with one live recruiter, it’s probably best to narrow it down to the agency where individual placement specialists were easily available. After all, if you’re ready to proceed with a new assignment you’ll want an agency that can make it happen fast and has recruiters available who already understand your criteria. In fact, your criteria may change from one assignment to another, so customer service is paramount. Determine what you want and then find out which agencies can make it happen.

FEATURED LOCATIONS AND HOT SPOTS

While for some nurses, salary, benefits, and career flexibility might be the number-one interest, many others just want the obvious—to travel and see the world. If you’re an adventurer who cares more about the travel experience than the money, then you’ll need an agency that can offer you the locations you want.

Not every agency can send you just anywhere. Figure out where you want to go, and then call around to discover who can send you there.

A travel nursing career is absolutely one of the best, most rewarding choices any nurse can make, but it’s important to select a company who will partner with you every step of the way. Before you jump in, do your homework and research all the best placement agencies. Finding the agency that fits your unique wants and needs will drastically increase your chances of success and happiness in your career.

City Of Heroes Travel power

City Of Heroes: A Travel Power Guide

We at the Marvello Corps supergroup like to give help where we can. Where as City of Heroes isn’t the most complicated MMORPG out there, it’s always good to have a little bit of information to help those who want it so I have written this guide to one of the most fun parts of both City of Heroes and City of Villains; the travel powers.

Over the 50 levels of both games you are going to do an awful lot of travelling around. You have the choice of 4 different powers that you can take to help you get around the different zones. They each have their benefits, drawbacks and pre-requisite powers that need to be taken before you can access them.

The powers themselves can be accessed at level 14 at the earliest and they are so prevalent in the game it is just assumed that by level 14 you will have one. It’s important to remember this when choosing your early powers, especially if you want to PVP, as the terrain of the higher-level zones (and the distances you have to travel between missions) is much easier and quicker to navigate around with one of these powers. So you want one right?

This means that either at level 6, 8, 10 or 12 you have to make the choice of travel power and pick a pre-requisite. The travel powers themselves are Fly, Teleport, Super Jump and Super Speed. Which one you choose will greatly depend on personal preference or character concept. I chose Fly with my original character because I was new to the game and wanted a flying character. My main preference, however, is for Super Jump as it is very versatile. This doesn’t stop me taking other travel powers though, sometimes for character concept or sometimes because I like a change. Sometimes I like to pick powers based on the pre-requisite power. This is always a good idea if there is a power that you want because it saves you having to access 2 travel pools and gives you a further power selection that otherwise would have been lost to you. As you can see there are many things to consider when deciding on your power.

So here are the powers along with some of their pre-requisite powers and pros and cons.

Fly:

This seams to be the one power that every new player wants and you can see why. Flying is so ingrained into the concept of a super-powered hero it almost seams wrong to have a hero without it.

Some say it is the safest power and it has certainly been designed as such. With it you can often completely miss mobs. Within missions it is not overly versatile but can be a benefit to the right character. It has a fairly high endurance usage (even though changed recently) and in order to use it with powers you will need to optimise your build. One option is to take Hover (one of the pre-requisite powers) as it has a much lower endurance usage and gives a defence buff as well, all be it a small one. One thing to remember is that it has a suppression effect so if you fire your powers you can not simply fly off, it takes a few seconds before the power comes back.

On the down side Fly is very slow compared to the other travel powers. Recently the option to slot Swift to enhance fight was added but it gives little benefit to a fully slotted Fly. The power its self needs to be slotted. I would recommend at least slotting with 3 flight speed enhancements. If you find you are having problems with endurance a 4th slot with an endurance modifier should solve that.

As far as Pre-requisites go you have a choice of Air Superiority and Hover. Air Superiority is actually quite a nice attack that deals a fare amount of damage and knocks an enemy out of the sky (or off there feet). It’s handy for Defenders and Controllers who don’t get many Melee attacks. I would warn against it for characters who use weapons though as you will have to re-draw your weapon after firing this off.

Hover is like mini-fly. It has a very slow speed but this can be enhanced with Flight speed enhancements to give a fairly good speed for use in battles. It does not suffer from suppression and has an incredibly small defence bonus. It is good for non-melee characters that want to fly above a battle and attack/buff/de-buff and can be useful for avoiding floor traps like Quicksand and Caltraps. This isn’t as good for Melee characters as you tend to stay away from the fight more.

Teleport:

Teleport is fast. In fact it is the fastest power in the game. You will get to everywhere as fast as super-humanly possible and it looks really good and has a very useful pre-requisite power.

It’s a very nice power to have in some respects. In others though, it is sadly lacking. For the benefit of speeding across zones you will have to 6-slot this power. Firstly 3 you need slots for endurance reduction. The endurance usage on Teleport is very high. When you first get this power you often have to take breaks between teleportation, as travel across zones will leave you drained. With the slotting however it is manageable and with Stamina as well, it is even more so. The last 3 slots you can use to boost the powers range (using normal range enhancements) that will speed up your travel.

As far as versatility goes this is probably the least versatile of the travel powers. Its speed is great but changing direction is sometimes a pain. One of the redeeming features of this power though is the ability to teleport away from slowing effects. It is useful in missions even if it takes some thinking outside the box to find some of the uses. Teleporting between ledges in missions is not the easiest thing in the world and if you want a power that is useful in that respect then maybe one of the others would be better for you.

Recall Friend and Teleport Foe are both useful powers as well and really help to make the power a better choice. Recall Friend lets you teleport team mates to you. This can be useful if you are getting people away from trouble or helping people reach missions quicker. It is less useful in PVP but this is where Teleport For really comes into its own. Teleport Foe allows you to teleport and enemy to you. It’s occasionally used as a pulling technique in PVE but it has a large agro range so you often find that the whole mob will follow as well. This is not always the case in PVP though and the power can be used to target individuals and either move them away from one of your allies or move them closer to another one.

If you can afford the slots then this is a nice power to have, even if it takes a little getting used to.

Super Jump:

I find this to be the most versatile of the travel powers. It combines a good speed with a decent vertical movement allowing quick crossing of maps as well as useability inside missions for reaching some of the tricky ledges. It also has the benefit of allowing you to control where you are going to land. The only down side to this power is that if you are not careful you may land near or on mobs who can quite easily kill you. It does not take long, however, to learn some of the tricks with Super Jump and it will afford you safe travel around zones with not much practice.

Super Jump is another power that has the suppression effect however and is greatly affected by powers that slow you or remove your ability to jump. It also has a very subtle power effect and it has been known for some people to run out of endurance during a battle because they have left this power on. That is not to say it is heavy on endurance, in fact outside of battle situations you never need to worry about endurance at all. The power is at a premium with just a single Jump enhancement and is actually quite fun to use.

The pre-requisite powers are equally as good as those of Fly. Combat Jumping is to Super Jump as Hover is to Fly. It gives you a very minor defence and can be use as a minor travel power. It is a toggle of course and endurance heavy builds, or those who already run many toggles may have a problem running CJ at the same time as fighting. Jump Kick has a funny animation but is every bit as good as Air Superiority. Once again using this power will have the effect of sheathing any weapons you may be using, but that does not stop it being useful for the right character.

Another thing to consider when taking the Jumping pool is Acrobatics. I have deliberately left out the other powers in the travel pools because on the whole they are not much use and do not have an effect on whether a power is chosen or not. Acrobatics is different. It is a toggle that allows some protection from holds and knock back effects. It’s worthwhile considering if you have a character that does not have a power like that available within your own sets.

This is my favourite power for travelling. It’s a good all rounder.

Super Speed:

This is the second most versatile of all the travel powers yet is suffers in one great respect. Unlike all of the other travel powers Super Speed is the only one that forces you to go around objects. The payoff for that is that you have a very speedy power that grants you a limited stealth effect. Travelling with Super Speed is not the easiest thing and you often have to re-evaluate your route half way through but the speed lone means that you still tend to end up at missions before your teammates.

In missions as well this is a useful power. It can help you keep up with your team. It can help you stealth through missions, avoiding those tricky mobs, and it has a very low endurance drain so it is possible to use this power in a fight.

For enhancements, you can just slot one for running speed and you are all done, saving you valuable slots. It is a good idea, however, to get this power with Hurdle from the fitness pool as that will give you some benefits vertically and allow you to jump over some obstacles you would otherwise have to run around.

Super Speed has the benefit of having one of the most useful pre-requisites; hasten. This power speeds up your attacks recharge time. Some see it as a must-have power but I have never thought of it as such. It does however give you great benefits in some fights and is a very worthwhile power to take.

The other option is Flurry. Much like Air Superiority it is a punch, but one that deals damage over time. The animation is a little long for it but you can get a good attack out of it if you are prepared to slot it for damage and accuracy.

Super Speed would be my second choice as a versatile power and again is one that is a lot of fun to use. Sometimes allowing you to see parts of the maps you otherwise would have missed.

And that’s it. As I said before, a lot of this comes down to preference but I hope that this, in some way, is a useful guide to those wanting to know a little more about travelling in City of Heroes and City of Villains.
